| Become
an Assessor
I’m told EPC is a growth market. Why is this?
The simple answer is that owners and landlords of business premises
across the UK will very shortly have a statutory obligation placed
on them to produce an EPC on properties they are selling or letting.
The
certification process will be enforced by Trading Standards, with those
businesses failing to comply or display a valid certificate facing
a fine.
This is a complete new business area with currently insufficient numbers
of qualified assessors able to undertake the work. The technical requirements
and qualifications necessary to become as Assessor are more onerous
than that required for Domestic Energy Assessors, although some will
want and be able to make the transition.
The important dates:
England & Wales:
- 6th April 2008 – EPC required for construction,
sale or rent of commercial buildings with floor area over 10,000 M2
- 4th January 2009 – EPC required for construction, sale
or rent of commercial buildings with floor area over 2,500 M2
- 1st October 2008 – EPC required for the construction,
sale or rent of all commercial buildings
- 1st October 2008 – DEC required for all public
buildings with floor area over 1,000 M2
Scotland:
- Now – EPC required on all commercial new builds
- 4th January 2009 – EPC required for sale or rent
of all commercial buildings
- 4th January 2009 – DEC required on all public buildings
Northern Ireland:
- Early 2008 – EPC required on all commercial new
builds
- Mid 2008 – Existing buildings which are being sold
- Late 2008 onwards – buildings which are being rented and the introduction of
DECs in large public sector buildings
What does EPC mean for me?
This is a great opportunity for you to develop your customer base and generate
additional income. Because EPCs are a legal requirement, there’ll be many businesses needing your services. Becoming a trained EPC assessor and working with Lexicon Energy means you’ll have the support of a reputable and trusted brand behind you.
What are the benefits of being qualified?
As you would expect, EPCs will need to be issued by an independent
and fully
qualified assessor – and we’d like to help you be one of them. Qualifying through Lexicon means not only
will you be supported by leading experts in energy efficiency, but you’ll
also have access to a large customer base.
How do I become a qualified assessor?
The Government is holding a number of courses at approved training
centres
throughout the country. You’ll need to attend one of them and then
pass an examination.
